Croton-Harmon High School students marked Red Ribbon Week, held the week of Oct. 26, with a number of activities that emphasized a drug prevention message.“The CHHS Teen Leadership Council stayed late on Friday night preparing for Monday’s Red Ribbon Week kickoff, decorating the main hallway red,” said student assistance counselor Kayla Martin. Teen Leadership Council members offered candy to their peers wearing red and sporting red ribbons at lunchtime on Oct. 26 and encouraged them to sign an anti-drug pledge. Other themed days of the week included Save the Day from Drugs, where students dressed up as their favorite superheroes, Celebrity Role Model Day, and Spook Out Drugs Day, held on the eve of Halloween, where students wore costumes for a contest run by the Spirit Week Committee. “On Wednesday, [Teen Leadership Council members] changed over the decorations to black in honor of those who have lost their lives to addiction and those who are still struggling,” said Martin. “Students wore black to support the victims of alcohol and drug tragedies.”
