Parents swapped seats with their children on Feb. 25 for a Principal’s Coffee focusing on the math curricula and resources available outside of the classroom.
First-, second-, third- and fourth-grade teachers each held separate sessions where they discussed topics ranging from the breakdown of New York State’s Common Core Learning Standards to specific problem-solving techniques like tape diagrams.
In the first-grade classroom, parents tackled “sprints” or quick warm-up math problems that students attempt to solve for 90 seconds at the beginning of class.“They love being challenged,” teacher Patricia Lynch told parents.
