Teen Leadership Council members at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School encouraged classmates to band together against drugs by wearing red on Oct. 28 as part of the school’s Red Ribbon Week initiative. Students signed an anti-drug pledge during their lunch periods before Teen Leadership Council members participated in “Planting the Promise” by sowing tulips, which will be in bloom in time for Alcohol Awareness Month in April. Other activities during the week included wearing tie-dye during Peace Out to Drugs Day, and Team Up Against Drugs Day, during which students wore their favorite jerseys. On Put Drugs to Sleep Day, students wore pajamas. The week ended with Spook Out Drugs Day, which required students to wear creative Halloween costumes for a chance to wear a prize during lunchtime.
