Fourth-grade students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School used fine motor skills and concentration to create necklaces, designed their own masks and tried their hand at challenging games as part of the annual Native American Day.
The special day each year allows students to become immersed in the culture they are studying through hands-on learning opportunities. Students were able to handle objects Native Americans used to clothe, feed and entertain themselves. All of the objects were handmade, and many serve multiple functions, students learned.
