Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School first-grade students recently took trips to Croton Point Park, where they tackled the school’s mission to be stewards of the Hudson River.“Our first-graders had the opportunity to seine the river, observe the tide and take the water temperature,” said teacher Patricia Lynch. “As a follow-up, they wrote about their experience by zooming in on a particular part of the trip. They then drew and painted a picture in watercolors to match their story.”
Added Principal Kelly Maloney, “As the year goes on, all grade levels will partake in activities designed to strengthen their understanding of the Hudson River in order to gain an appreciation and respect for it.”
