Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School parent Jen Argenta recently shared fascinating details about early man’s journey during a dynamic presentation to the school’s sixth-graders.“[Argenta] gave a fabulous grade-wide presentation on early man and the Neolithic age,” said teacher Alison Romm. “She brought this fascinating time period to life with an interactive experience that showed why early people migrated and settled in different parts of the world.” Argenta’s presentation touched on the geographic history that affected man’s movement and shared that humans’ migration “occurred over hundreds of thousands of years.” She encouraged students to consider questions such as, “What makes a good place for settlement?” and “How do we organize?” as they explored food foraging societies. The presentation also included facts about the economies and sociopolitical types that existed as early man began to settle in various regions across the globe.“With her guidance, students learned how early man developed from hunter gatherers to herding societies and eventually to subsistence farming, where early civilization was born,” said Romm.
